Philosophy
We believe:
- In honesty, respect and trust
- A lasting commitment to the Community we work in
- The sustained development of our Company and our Employees
- Planned and profitable growth with our Partners and Clients
Background
The Company was created in 1973. Ian McNee, current Managing Director, purchased the business in 1991. Ian is a time-served joiner with a keen eye for a quality product.
Anne McNee, Ian’s wife and fellow Director, is fully involved with the Company and together they have expanded their interests in the construction business with the purchase of Storie (Argyll) Ltd., William Wallace & Son Ltd., Lawries Electrical and Osborne Skip Hire.
These companies now form and integral part of the company and complement the core business of Stewart McNee Ltd. McNee’s now has over 60 employees covering all trades, many of whom have been with the business since apprenticeship.
Sustainability
From inception to the present day, a principle of steady, sustainable growth has been the watchword, ensuring that quality of craftsmanship and the ability to maintain a ‘hands on’ approach to management have been upheld, proof of which can be seen in a number of quality developments in the area.
In addition, McNee’s have gained a formidable reputation for the design and construction of new homes on client’s sites as well as much admired extensions and renovations. The Company also work extensively and successfully in the commercial and public sector as main contractors or in partnership with other contractors, such as our partnership with Biwater on recent projects for Scottish Water in Oban, Rothesay and Helensburgh.
We believe in sustainability and have a policy that applies to both the materials that we use and the community that we operate in. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that all purchasing policies promote legal and sustainable forestry.
Stewart McNee (Dunoon) Ltd had a turnover of £6.8m in 2008 and has been consistently profitable for the past 15 years.
Community
Stewart McNee (Dunoon) Ltd is part of the local community and we strongly believe that our success has been in no small way due to our commitment to this community. Over 54%% of our turnover is spent in the Cowal area in the form of wages and with local suppliers. With almost all of our workforce living locally we play a vital role in the health of the local economy.
Our support for the local community extends to sponsorship of the famous Cowal Highland Games, a number of youth football teams and the Cowal Hospice.
